Learn MoreAthletes
Whether your interest is competitive or social in nature, we want you on our team. We provide year round athletic training and competitions all at NO COST to our athletes. Anyone age 8 or older who has an intellectual disability can become a Special Olympics athlete.
Learn MoreSports
We offer year round sports training and competitions in 11 different sports. These provide opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate perseverance, experience joy and form friendships with other athletes and their families.
Learn MoreVolunteer
Volunteers are the backbone of the Special Olympics movement. There are many ways to help: working directly with athletes in their training as either a volunteer or coach, assisting at an athletic competition or fundraiser or serving on the Council.

In The News
Congratulations to our latest Impact Award winners. Forrest Holbert is a model SOVAL athlete. At the last tournament in Fairfax County, unprompted, he recited the Special Olympics oath after a tough loss as a pick-me-up for his teammates. He is a great friend, teammate and role model for all athletes. Go Lancers! Katie Balanc leads the skills basketball program with compassion, tenderness and vitality. She oversees the development of athletes who otherwise would not get the opportunity to play basketball. She gets more smiles per hour than any other coach. Thank you Katie.
Our programs are growing and we always need new coaches and volunteers. Contact Kevin Wright at volunteers@sovaloudoun.org to discover where you can best serve.
The Council is looking to fill two positions: Events Chair and Web support advisor. The Events Chair is a two year commitment and this person is responsible for organizing community events. The Web support advisor will keep the website active and up to date. For more information contact Wilson Chua at chair@sovaloudoun.org
