Become a Coach

Coaches provide the important sports instruction athletes need to succeed. In addition, coaches are role models that encourage athletes to strive to reach their full potential. The more coaches available, the more sports available to our athletes. Special Olympics Virginia offers coaching guidelines for each sport. Many sports offer mentorships for new coaches.

Coaches are required to complete the Class A Process in addition to taking Concussion Training.

Become a Sports Volunteer

Volunteers who assist coaches throughout an entire sports season with skills instruction are important to providing support to individual athletes. These types of volunteers are ALWAYS in great need! Find out the current needs by contacting volunteers@sovaloudoun.org.

Sports Volunteers are required to complete the Class A Process.

Become an Event Volunteer

Single-day event volunteers can be officials, fundraisers, or fans cheering in the stands. We are always in need of these important helpers! Event Volunteers must be age 14+ unless accompanied by a parent, guardian, or chaperone. Contact volunteers@sovaloudoun.org

Council Members and Advisory Team

SOVA Loudoun is served by a council of volunteers. These council members direct our programs and serve 2 year terms. All are welcome to apply to serve. The council also needs support in non-council groups such as administration and outreach. Contact chair@sovaloudoun.org

The Class A certification process includes completing the Adult Class A volunteer forms, getting a background check and taking the Protective Behaviors and Concussion Training in the Special Olympics online portal. Coaches need to complete the entire process.

Sports volunteers complete the entire process except for the Concussion Training. Minors (under 18) complete the Class A Minor volunteer forms. Event volunteers need only contact volunteers@sovaloudoun.org.
